ADS Driver to the Rescue!

An amazing story came to ADS from a man who was driving in Alabama at thesafety first ads logistics right; or the wrong time, depending on how you look at it. The man who notified us of the situation, Destin from Alabama, was driving north on Interstate 65 at night in his home state when the car in front of him caught on fire.

This was the same car which had blown past him about 30mph over the speed limit just moments before bursting into flames. The driver pulled over her car and with the help of Destin and another man who had stopped, she was removed from her flaming vehicle. After calling 911, the fire started dripping steadily under the car and smoke was beginning to pour out from under the hood. Neither gentleman had a fire extinguisher in their car so Destin smartly tried to stop several big rigs, knowing they carried fire extinguishers.

No rigs stopped until ADS Logistics truck number 3435 downshifted quickly and signaled over. Destin described himself as “pretty physically able,” so he imagined running up to the truck, grabbing the extinguisher from the trucker, and sprinting back to the car to put out the flames. Who can blame him? But by the time he reached the truck, ADS driver Chris Ward had applied his parking brake and his emergency flashers; located and unlatched his extinguisher, and was beginning to sprint towards the car which was on fire. He passed Destin on his way to put out the flames; clearly he was reacting upon instinct. As Destin put it, “Mr. Ward took action when others would not. His quick thinking under pressure and swift action resulted in the woman's car being saved, and allowed traffic to continue to flow on the interstate smoothly.”

Destin was the first on the scene and first to act, and there is a lot to be said for that. All three men did great service to help the woman and save her car, which was the ultimate goal of course. Great thanks should be awarded to these men as they have all fulfilled ADS’s 3 goals, “Safety, Service, and Professionalism”.
