Homewood, IL – ADS Logistics, LLC, (ADS), a North American integrated logistics provider to the metals industry, has made a commitment to help the thousands of people devastated by the effects of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
"These disasters have touched the entire nation," said Stephen Fraser, President and Chief Executive Officer for ADS. "Our relief efforts began after Hurricane Katrina and now have been reinforced to support those affected by Hurricane Rita as well. I am gratified and humbled by the generous responses of the entire ADS organization and how they have so unselfishly reached out to those in need."
ADS is engaged is a number of relief efforts working within the framework of the organization's reach, including a matching funds campaign, general supply and clothing drive, sponsorship of Thanksgiving meals, and a Christmas present collection. Additionally, the company has offered the use of its transportation network to its customers, service providers and other local businesses to assist with their relief efforts.
ADS serves General Motors Corporation through its facility in Shreveport, Louisiana, and has an operating agreement with the Port of Shreveport-Bossier to provide metals distribution and supply chain services through Port facilities. The City of Shreveport immediately opened its doors to Katrina evacuees, and our local employees started volunteering in shelters. Of the many cities helping Katrina and Rita evacuees, ADS made a decision to put its support behind Shreveport. "Our Shreveport employees and business partners have been affected. Helping in whatever way we can, went without question. And, the right place to help, was in the home court of our business constituents," continued Fraser.
ADS has selected the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission as its adopted mission for hurricane relief efforts. The Rescue Mission celebrated its 50th year serving the needs of the homeless in the Shreveport-Bossier area, and will be a core provider of aid to Katrina and Rita evacuees remaining in Shreveport after the temporary shelters shut-down. Several truckloads of supplies collected by ADS associates, several Southland Chicago and Northwest Indiana Boy Scout troops, various local schools and businesses and students at Kent State University departed from the Chicago, IL and Kent, OH areas headed for Shreveport this week. In addition to supplies, ADS has made a $5,000 cash contribution to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission to help defray the cost of providing meals and temporary housing over the past several weeks. ADS has also made a commitment to be a major sponsor of Thanksgiving meals served at the Rescue Mission this year, as well as hosting a gift drive for evacuees remaining in Shreveport during the Christmas Holiday.
“The outpouring of love and support from around the country during this time of need has been tremendous,” said Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission Executive Director R. Henry Martin. “The generosity of ADS and its employees will go a long way toward touching many lives,” Martin added.
